Convenings

The field comes together in rooms. Convening is its own discipline — the right people, the right framework, and stakes that justify the gathering.

Rural Firearm Violence Prevention Implementation Convening

September 15–17, 2026 · Winthrop, Washington
With technical assistance from the Johns Hopkins Center for Gun Violence Solutions at the Bloomberg School of Public Health.

A three-day multidisciplinary convening on rural implementation of Washington State's firearm violence prevention infrastructure — Extreme Risk Protection Orders, firearm relinquishment, safe storage, behavioral health crisis response, and the multi-disciplinary coordination that translates statute into operational reality. The program includes a private judicial listening session with the JHU team and project-based workshops across law enforcement, prosecutorial, judicial, public health, behavioral health, legal aid, tribal, and community-based partners.

I designed the convening for rural and under-resourced jurisdictions where conventional firearm violence prevention infrastructure has been slow to land. I am taking engagement and registration inquiries.

Women's Hunter Education Field Skills Evaluation

August 2026 · Chelan, Washington

A one-day women-only field skills evaluation for the Washington State hunter education certification — live-fire stations, firearm handling, field judgement, and the practical demonstrations the state requires, in a setting built for competence rather than for performance. Open to women who have completed the online coursework and need the field day to certify.

The course extends the women's hunter education work I run in Okanogan County and sits inside a broader case: rural firearm literacy is foundational infrastructure for firearm violence prevention, not opposition to it. Registration inquiries.

Convening philosophy

The right convening produces work the participating organizations could not have produced separately; no single institution carries all the weight. The agenda centers on questions, not panels. Outcomes belong to the field, not to the convener.

Haliruna does not host convenings to demonstrate authority. It hosts convenings when there is work that cannot get done any other way.

Convening design as a service

I also offer convening design as a defined engagement — for jurisdictions, philanthropies, or coalitions that need to bring a difficult question into a room and want the room built by someone who has done it before. Inquire here.
